Field Technician (Telecommunications Wiring & Managed Service Field Specialist)

Job Description

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot telecommunications systems, including low voltage wiring, terminating Cat3/Cat5/Cat6 cables, and other related tasks.
  • Working knowledge of VOIP gateways such as Adtran TA 900 series devices.
  • Ability to provide remote access to engineers to configure and set up routers & switches.
  • Conduct site surveys to assess wiring needs and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with dispatch, engineers and other team members to complete installations and repairs.
  • Test and certify network connections to ensure optimal performance.
  • Provide excellent customer service and address client inquiries professionally.
  • Manage and document all on-site installation, repair, maintenance, and test tasks.
  • Diagnose errors or technical problems and determine proper solutions.

Key Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years in telecommunications or related field with a focus on wiring and cabling.
Proficiency in low voltage wiring, punching down Cat3/Cat5/Cat6 cables, and fiber optic cabling.
Familiarity with telecommunications equipment, network infrastructure, and cable management systems.
Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.  

Managed Services Skills

Experience with remote monitoring and management software.

Knowledge of IT service management (ITSM) best practices.

Understanding of PC and server basics.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency in troubleshooting and providing remote support

Experience with ticketing systems and service desk operations.

Certifications (Preferred)

Certified Network Cable Installer (CNCI®) 

Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD)
BICSI Technician or higher.
BICSI ITS Installer 2, Copper and Fiber or equivalent. 
CompTIA Network+ or similar certifications.
